Canadian National Vegetation Classification (CNVC)
Welcome!
Welcome to the website of the Canadian National Vegetation Classification (CNVC). The CNVC is an ecological classification of natural and semi-natural Canadian vegetation. The classification is a hierarchical taxonomy, describing vegetation conditions at different levels of generalization from global to local. The purpose of the CNVC is to act as a “dictionary” of vegetation units with standardized names, specific definitions, and factsheet descriptions.
On this website you can:
- Explore the CNVC hierarchy and search for information on specific vegetation conditions
- Learn how the classification is structured
- Familiarize yourself with factsheet layout and terminology
- Learn about the CNVC project and its partnership
Work is ongoing and updates are made to the hierarchy as new portions of the classification are confirmed. As well, parts of the website are under construction and new supporting material is constantly being added. Check current status and recent updates.
